m-Phenylenediamine (MPD) is a solid at room temperature, with a slight aromatic odor. Melting point: 63.2℃ (145.8 ℉); boiling point 284℃ (543 ℉) (at 1,013 hPa). MPD is not classified as explosive and is not oxidizing. It is soluble in water, alcohol, and most organic solvents.

MPD is used as a key component in the manufacture of engineering polymers, aramid fibers, epoxy resins, wire enamel coatings and polyurea elastomers. MPD is also used for removing aldehyde impurities in chemical processing, as an accelerator for adhesive resins, and as a component in dyes for leather and textiles.
