CAS No.: 68-12-2
Molecular Formula: C3H7NO Molecular Weight: 73.09
Structural formula:
DMF is a colorless to yellow transparent liquid with high boiling point with a faint, specific amine-like odor. It is miscible with water. DMF is hydrophilic and polar aprotic solvent, which could increase the SN2 reaction. Existing with strong alkali or acide (especially at high temperature), DEHA hydrolyses into formic acid and dimethylallylamine.

DMF is an excellent polar aprotic solvent that is miscible with water and with most organic solvents. Because of the good property to dissolve polyethylene, polyethylene chloride, polyacrylonitrile and poly acrylamide, DMF is widely used in a variety of industrial applications, such as petrochemicals, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, dyes, leather, painting and organic synthesis.
